34CrMo4 (4135) Engineering Steel

1.7220

  • EN1.7220
  • EN34CrMo4
  • AISI4135
  • UNSG41350

Chromium-molybdenum quenched and tempered steel between 42CrMo4 and 25CrMo4. Used for shafts, bolts and pressure parts requiring medium to high strength with good toughness and weldability.

01Material Properties

  • Rm 800–1000 MPa (+QT)
  • Good toughness
  • Better weldability than 42CrMo4
  • Medium hardenability
  • Suitable for nitriding

02Applications

  • Shafts and axles
  • Bolts and studs (8.8 / 10.9)
  • Pressure vessel and gas cylinder steel
  • Cranks and gears
  • Hydraulic components

03Delivery Condition

  • Quenched and tempered (+QT) or annealed (max. 223 HB).

04Heat Treatment

Typical values

Soft annealing
680–720 °C; max. 223 HB
Normalising

Tempering (QT)
540–660 °C, 1–2 h
After QT (+QT)
Rm 800–1000 MPa, Rp0.2 ≥ 550 MPa (≤ 100 mm)
Surface hardening
Induction / flame; nitriding possible
