25CrMo4 (4130) Engineering Steel

1.7218

  • EN1.7218
  • EN25CrMo4
  • AISI4130
  • UNSG41300

Low-carbon chromium-molybdenum quenched and tempered steel. Tougher and more weldable than 42CrMo4; suited to medium-strength welded structures and fasteners.

01Material Properties

  • Rm 700–900 MPa (+QT)
  • Good weldability (with preheating)
  • High toughness
  • Good formability
  • Carburising also possible

02Applications

  • Welded structural tubes and frames
  • Aerospace structural parts (4130)
  • Bolts, studs and fasteners
  • Pressure vessels and flanges
  • Shafts and axles (medium load)

03Delivery Condition

  • Quenched and tempered (+QT), normalised (+N) or annealed (max. 212 HB).

04Heat Treatment

Typical values

Soft annealing
680–720 °C; max. 212 HB
Normalising

Hardening
850–880 °C; water or oil
Tempering (QT)
550–670 °C, 1–2 h
After QT (+QT)
Rm 700–900 MPa, Rp0.2 ≥ 450 MPa (≤ 100 mm)
Surface hardening
Induction / flame; nitriding possible
