C45E (1045) Carbon Steel

1.1191

  • EN1.1191
  • ENC45E
  • AISI1045
  • UNSG10450

Unalloyed medium-carbon quenched and tempered steel. Economical, easy to machine and suitable for induction surface hardening; because of its low hardenability it is used in small sections and medium loads.

01Material Properties

  • Rm 600–800 MPa (+QT, ≤ 16 mm)
  • Low hardenability; section ≤ 25 mm
  • Very good machinability
  • Very suitable for induction / flame hardening (55–60 HRC surface)
  • Economical

02Applications

  • Shafts and pins
  • Gears (low to medium load)
  • Machine parts, keys, bushings
  • Hydraulic pistons (chrome-plated shafting)
  • General machine building

03Delivery Condition

  • Normalised (+N), quenched and tempered (+QT) or cold drawn; ground / chrome-plated shafting.

04Heat Treatment
