54SiCr6 Spring Steel

1.7102

  • EN1.7102
  • EN54SiCr6
  • AISI~9254

Silicon-chromium spring steel. High elastic limit and relaxation resistance; used for valve springs and highly stressed coil springs.

01Material Properties

  • Spring hardness 48–54 HRC (1500–1900 MPa)
  • High relaxation resistance
  • Good fatigue strength
  • Sensitive to decarburisation; protective atmosphere
  • As wire and bar

02Applications

  • Valve springs
  • Highly stressed coil springs
  • Suspension springs
  • Clutch springs
  • Spring washers

03Delivery Condition

  • Soft annealed or quenched and tempered; wire, round bar.

04Heat Treatment

Typical values

Soft annealing
680–720 °C; max. 248 HB
Hardening
840–880 °C; oil
Tempering
380–480 °C, 1–2 h
Spring hardness
44–52 HRC (1300–1700 MPa)
Note
Decarburisation reduces fatigue life; protective atmosphere
